Maintaining a home aquarium The home aquariums hobby is popular around the world.
In the USA it has been described as the second most popular hobby, second only to stamp collecting would you believe?
But is an aquarium a permanent hobby and do aquarists remain as fish keepers for long periods of time?
Not as many home aquarium hobbyists are as committed to the long term care of their fish as one may prefer.
It is said that almost 20% of aquarists ‘drop out’ of the hobby at some stage, quoting reasons as unlikely as ‘the plants stopped growing’ or ‘we mixed the wrong fish together, so we gave up’.
This for an aquariums store owner is not the type of thing you like to hear, especially when the reasons for leaving the hobby is quoted as being ‘we were given the wrong advice’. This is quite simply the worst reason for giving up on your home aquariums.
Aquariums are virtually ubiquitous and while there are many reasons for not wanting an aquarium in your home, lack of space cannot be quoted as one of them. Aquariums have come a long way in the past 15 years, with shapes and sizes to fit just about anywhere in your home.
Even the smallest of fish tanks (around 3 gallons / 15 litres) have improved dramatically, with filtration systems normally reserved for the larger sized aquariums now being made smaller and more efficient by the aquarium manufacturers.

In this 21st century world, science has advanced to a level where there are appliances to assist a homemaker with almost everything in the Kitchen.
With a move of the finger (to press a switch), one can electronically carry out the job which manually would’ve been less efficient and long and tedious.
These are definitely a boon for the fast paced urban life, which is attracting a large number of people and taking them to cities these days.
Home appliances affect our lives in a large number of aspects. For instance, while air conditioners promise us a comfortable working temperature to live in, washing machines remove the need for physical labor on cleaning regularly used clothes.
There are machines like burners and dish washers to relieve one of endless hours spent in the kitchen on preparing one meal after the other.
These appliances are integrated in our lives with such a strong bond that it feels like a no man’s land in our own house without electricity.
Not just they make life simpler and longer, a lot of such products ensure that we eat healthier than usual. Microwaves these days come with a technology that preserves nutrition while refrigerators help storing them.
The increased use of these innovations can one day lead to a level of comfort that none of us has ever thought of.
