Remember the post about home aquarium that I’ve published previously?
Keeping an aquarium at home is more than just for decoration; it’s a hobby you can’t afford to resist. And if we count the figures, in USA itself, maintaining a home aquarium stands next to stamp collection in popularity.
But only a small percentage of these hobbyists can retain the aquarium for long. Most of the people would either blame the plants or the bad cross breeding as the reason for an unsuccessful endeavor in this field.
Aquariums do not fascinate everybody, especially when it comes to maintaining them. But one reason that is not cited for keeping an aquarium is lack of space.
Over time, the shape and designs of aquariums have evolved so much that it can fir almost anywhere, without many connections or link ups.
These little aquariums are self sufficient in oxidization and perfectly reliable. Even a layman without technical knowledge of electronics can set up and install it.
One must possess 2 simple characteristics to keep sustain an aquarium: Firstly, the responsibility and commitment towards your fishes and their care.
Research and learn about them to keep treat them the way they should be treated. Secondly, patience is the key to a successful home aquarium. You don’t create a masterpiece in a week.
Give it some time and attention, and it’ll turn into a beautiful fish tank someday!

Maintaining a home aquarium The home aquariums hobby is popular around the world.
In the USA it has been described as the second most popular hobby, second only to stamp collecting would you believe?
But is an aquarium a permanent hobby and do aquarists remain as fish keepers for long periods of time?
Not as many home aquarium hobbyists are as committed to the long term care of their fish as one may prefer.
It is said that almost 20% of aquarists ‘drop out’ of the hobby at some stage, quoting reasons as unlikely as ‘the plants stopped growing’ or ‘we mixed the wrong fish together, so we gave up’.
This for an aquariums store owner is not the type of thing you like to hear, especially when the reasons for leaving the hobby is quoted as being ‘we were given the wrong advice’. This is quite simply the worst reason for giving up on your home aquariums.
Aquariums are virtually ubiquitous and while there are many reasons for not wanting an aquarium in your home, lack of space cannot be quoted as one of them. Aquariums have come a long way in the past 15 years, with shapes and sizes to fit just about anywhere in your home.
Even the smallest of fish tanks (around 3 gallons / 15 litres) have improved dramatically, with filtration systems normally reserved for the larger sized aquariums now being made smaller and more efficient by the aquarium manufacturers.
Enough for this time, I will continue with the rest of the article in part 2 later.
